The list below shows the times when the most important economic data are released for each of the countries and some of the important timing to take note.

Take note of the Daylight Saving Time (DST) which starts from Mar and end in late Oct / early Nov for EUR/GBP/CHF and USD/CAD. It requires timing to be adjusted forward by 1 hour for countries which observed DST during the period.

SGI MasterTrade Forex Trading System

After much research and coding on MQL programming, I've finally managed to come out with my own indicators which nicely representing the trends and short term movement for fast trigger. I named them as SGI MasterTrade Indicators (The 2 rows of color bars on the above chart).

SGI MasterTrade Indicators include a Trend Indicator (lower color bars) and a Trigger Indicator (upper color bars).

With SGI MasterTrade Trend Indicator, it makes identifying of trends (blue and red) much easier. Not just that, it also has the capability to serve as a warning on the changing of trend (green and yellow).

As for SGI MasterTrade Trigger Indicator, it indicates the short term movement of the price which can be serve as an indicator for quick entry and exit.

Together with the current High Powered Setups, both have formed into a even more powerful system for Forex Trading, which I will name it as SGI MasterTrade Forex Trading System.

I've participated in the recent competition organised by Alpari UK, above is the summary of my results for this one month competition. The leverage for this competition is 10 : 1 and the maximum lot size per trade that I'm using is 0.5 to 2 standard lots.

Though I didn't manage to come in tops but making USD20k (1304pips) within a month with a success rate of 97.74% (130 out of 133 trades) is still quite an achievement. Most of my trades are base on intraday trading.

Turning $200 into $2000+ in 3 months! It may seems impossible to most but it is possible. You just need the right trading skills and discipline.

Above is the summary of one of my live trading accounts which shows the possibility of building a small account into a bigger account in trading. And most importantly with reasonably low drawdown and consistency (you can see from the equity graph).

Automated Forex Trading System II

This is another EA with more than 90% win rate. I started running this EA on a USD10k account since 15 April 2010 . This EA runs on GBPUSD.

Above is the partial statement ( I'm unable to show it all because it is too long for me to do a print screen) and the full summary of this trading account. In slightly less than 3 months, it has already made more than 100% profit! The current account balance is USD20,852 with a net profit of USD10,852.

I am working in creating more EAs with reasonable or great monthly return, good consistency and low drawdown.

Forex Automated Trading - EA on the run

The above are the statement and report of one of my latest EA, this is a scalping EA or should say it as an EA with smaller take profit but much larger stop loss. The backtesting report shows that this EA is having a >95% winning rate (will not show it here as it has almost caused my jaw to drop, too good to be true : P. But of course, the backtesting results may not represent the forward testing results).

I've loaded the EA for forward testing since late 25 Mar 2010, till date, it has made 28 trades and all are winning trades (with slightly more than 50% hitting the target price). This results actually goes in line with the backtesting results.....wow! 100% win rate?? No, it is impossible for a EA to have a 100% win rate, if there is, either everyone will snatch it or nobody will sell it. As I mentioned earlier on, it is >95% (base on backtesting).

With a 50% profit in just slightly short of one month, this EA definitely look great. But for live run, I will not use 1 standard lot per 10k but a smaller lot size, I prefer to manage my risk first before looking at the possible profit.

I'm still keeping my finger crossed for this EA, running for just coming to one month really can't proof anything. My next revision is on the way, will be doing more testing after that while I'll continue to let this EA runs.

I'll post the statement of this account again when it hit 100% profit. How long does it take? I really don't know. If you don't see me posting statement of this account again, you know what is going on...haha. Finger crossing even harder now. : P

Forex Automated Trading

Automated Trading

Some believe in fully automated trading but some don't. For me, currently i still prefer a semi automated trading, it is good when I decided to hold a trade and let the program "monitor" the trade for me. (can be done only on MT4 platform).

Of course, I'm one of those who believed automated trading does work (But not those selling in the market). To me, as long as you have a good strategy and it is programmable, then logically speaking, it should works. Am still trying hard.....

I've been trying to come out with a program that is able to fit into my strategy (not fitting strategy to the program). I've been working on it since one year ago....how's the progress so far? I would say each revised version kept improving, but still have not reach the standard of what I wanted yet. Other than strategies, I'm also trying to add in some money management to further enhance the performance of the EA.

How is the result so far?
So far, backtesting has been showing good and very good results. As for forward testing, some of them are not as consistent but some of them are still doing good so far. I will let it run for a longer time to ensure these EAs are really performing before trading live using them (but with care).

I'm currently working on some trending and scalping EAs. Some of the results are quite pleasing, but I need longer time to ensure it is working consistently. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Summary
I've been doing back testing and exploring on EA for slightly more than one year, I've found out that other then the strategy, there are few areas will affect or determine the accuracy of the results:

1. Broker's Currency Spreads - Wider spread will affect results, esp. the scalpers EA.

2. Accuracy of historical datas - Inaccurate datas will distort the actual results.

3. Indicators - May not advisable to purely depend on indicators for entry as it may be too lagging and the readings may differ between each broker.

4. Time of Brokers - Esp. on H4 and daily chart, the bar opening time differ between each broker.

5. Length of test - The longer the length of test, the more stable it will be in a long run.

There are more factors that will affect the results and these are the few main areas that I gather so far.

A Good Trading Strategy need to have at least 50% Success Rate with a 1:1 Rewards Risk or High Success Rate with Moderate Reward Risk Ratio or Moderate Success Rate with High Rewards Risk Ratio. Having such Trading Strategy, a fixed position sizing is good enough.

Trading For a Living

After going through the recent recession, many felt that working for people is no longer secure and many are talking about trading for a living, be it in stock trading or forex trading.

Live Trading with Intake 0609 - Profit USD820 in 3 hours

Yesterday is the live trading session with Intake 0609. During the live trading, we managed to capture a good profit of USD820 (81pips) in around 3 hours by using one of the setups being taught in the course. Another good thing is, the trade was automatically closed by the AEP system! (AEP System is a Auto-Exit Program which follow the exit criteria being taught in the class)

The setups being taught in the course are applicable to all currency pairs and all timeframe, they can be used for stock trading as well. Quite a number of our students are doing very well in stock trading by using the setups being taught in the course as well.

Money Management and Trading Strategy

In trading, different traders have their own different trading style, but as long as it works for them, then that are good strategies.

Some emphasize more on Money Management while some on Trading Strategy but both need to be part of the trading.

Those who emphasize more on Money Management usually have a ok strategy but with the Strong Money Management, a 40% success rate with 1:1 risk reward ratio can help them to make profit from the market in long run.

Those who have Good Strategy with more than 50% success rate and at least a 1:1 risk rewards ratio, or at least 50% success rate with more than 1:1 risk rewards ratio, they just need to have a constant fixed position size will help them to make profit from the market in long run as well.

How about a Good Strategy combined with a Strong Money Management?

That could be an ideal case. But to me, if you have a good trading strategy, you are always in an upper hand. It is easier to master Money Management than a Strategy.

Those who trade mainly base on Money Management usually need a bigger capital. Here is one "Sure Win" trading if you have a strategy with 1:1 risk rewards ratio and low success rate, but a large capital. It's all about Statistics, just like how casinos or brokers make their money.

Example: base on 20pips stop loss and take profit (This is base on making profit with just one winning trade, you can also come out with formula which enable you to make profit with two continuous winning trades, this will bring down the incremental of the lot size)

Official Launching of SGI AEP System

After a long waiting, the AEP system is finally out. We just have a pre-launching last night together with the live trading session of Intake 0509.

We will be Officially Launching it on 18th Oct 09, as this is a day of remembrance of something significant that happened to my family last year. Times really fly.

AEP stands for Automated Exit Program or Auto-Exit Program. This program will help to exit trades automatically with the pre-programmed criteria which is the exit strategy that is being taught in the SGI High Powered Trading Course. It is applicable to all time frame and all currency pairs.

My Forex Trading

Some potential students have requested to see my statement (politely). I was a bit reluctant to share but at the same time, I know I need to show some prove as I'm not an established course provider, yet. So I did share with them. My Journey on Providing Trading Course

Have been kind of busy since I started conducting courses in February this year......busy with my own trading, setting up business, setting up website, updating blogs, doing marketing (actually didn't do much, but will be doing more), preparing course notes, arranging for classes, supporting students in stocks and forex trading, joining Forex compeition, working on automated trading system, etc. There are really many ground works to be done to establish myself and building a name in the market. Once the ground works are done, I'll be able to continue to focus on guiding my students and trade more as well.

When I decided to start conducting trading courses, someone did ask me..."There are already many established courses out there in the market, why do you still want to come out and conduct trading courses?... It will be very tough". I did ask the same question before setting my direction and coming out to share my trading strategy and experience. In order to "compete" with those established course providers, I need to be different and even better than most of them, be it in trading strategy, teaching, support etc. And most importantly, the passion to teach and really teach (not just providing information), the main focus need to be on the students, their progress, their performance, etc. That is why I need to provide life time support and mentorship to them, as trading journey doesn't just stop after completing the course.

Almost six months has passed since I first started my first course with three students, currently I've a total of 14 students (not many but growing) from 3 intakes, some are home-makers, teachers, professionals and also full time traders. I'm very happy with the progress of the students and some are achieving great and consistent results in their trading. I'm also very encouraged by the feedbacks from the students, they are very happy with what they've learnt and received. Some of them have also attended some other established courses out there before coming to my course and they find my course is better or much better. I'm really glad to hear that.

In the forward, I'm planning to create more public awareness on my course by giving talks and perhap organise some seminar. I was invited as a speaker by a meetup group in the coming meeting with likely more than 100 people. I'm looking forward to it and will be sharing something useful for their trading and maybe introduce a bit about myself, my company and course that i'm providing.

Look forward to more happy students and will continue to help more people who wanted to do well in their trading, be it in Forex or Stocks.

Last night, I was having a class with Intake 0309, they were taught on the ultimate setup, a powerful setup other than the six high powered setups which allows tight stop loss with potential good profit.

During the live trading session on 2nd half of the lesson, we spotted the entry signal for short selling on EURJPY at 133.71 with stop loss at 133.95 and second short selling entry at 133.64 with stop loss at 133.82. The position covering signal only appear in this morning at 131.66 which generate an awesome profit of 205pips (around USD2,050 for 1 standard lot) for first entry and 199pips (around USD1,990 for 1 standard lot) for second entry.

Updates on SGI High Power Trading Course

Currently, I've an on-going class (Intake 0309) with 8 students, which is the maximum number of students that I've set for a class. This will enable me to really focus to individual's progress and needs.

As the number has grown as compare to previous intakes, I've decided to add in one more day for the course. This will also provide the students more hands-on for their practical on both stock and especially forex trading. So for this intake, there are altogether 6 sessions instead of 5. I've just completed the fifth session earlier on and I think the pace is just nice and I've more time to go through the trading platform and live trading with them.

Therefore, for future Intakes, I will increase the number of sessions from 5 to 6 when there are more than 5 students.

GBPUSD is shown a good run on yesterday and today. It has reached the peak at 1.6663 before turning down and cutting the bottom down trend line. It also shown a short selling signal at 1.6605 and a cover signal at 1.6316 which generate an awesome profit of 289pips (equivalent to around USD2,890 for 1 standard lot).

This afternoon, it also shown a buying signal at 1.6308 and currently is running a good profit of more than 90pips.

Stock Trading Statements for May 09 from Graduate of SGI High Powered Trading Course

The above statement was provided by the same student who I posted the statement for April 09.

In May 09, this student had make a total of 20 trades (excluding the first 2 entries which were made much earlier). Out of this 20 trades, 19 trades were profitable trades and 1 breakeven trade (excl. the transaction fee). Success Rate : 95%.

The result was really great and this student was shocked after seeing the statement.

As for how much this student has made in May 09, I can only say that it is much more than April.

I'm really glad that this student has continued to do well for the past few months. This has met my objective of deciding to conduct courses, I hope to see more happy and success students along the way.

In the current SGI FX Trading Course (High Powered) or SGI High Powered Trading Course, I'm teaching students how to trade using the high powered setups for both Stock and Forex Trading. They have been progressing well and some have actually improved a lot and doing very well in their tradings.

The above is the April statement on Stock Trading from one of my student. This student of mine has improved tremedously after attending my course, I've been doing follow up with this students almost everyday.

There were 17 trades being done in April 09 and out of this 17 trades, there were 14 profitable trades, 1 breakeven trade (excl. the transaction fee) and 2 loss trades with tight stop loss. Success Rate : 82.3%.

As for the profit in term of $ value, I can say it is much more than the course fee this student has paid for. I was told not to disclose the actual value but I really appreciate this student for sharing the statement.

Statement from one of my students

Above is the partial trading statement (as I can't capture all in a single picture file, but the summary on trading statistic is provided) from one of my students in my first official SGI FX Trading class conducted in Feb 09. Though this is just a demo account statement, but for a newbie to achieve such result is really an achievement.

This student of mine is very new to forex trading and this is her first time trading in forex. She is using the indicators that I've taught during the class, though it is a common indicator available, but I'm teaching how to use it in a unique way which help to increase the probability of success. As promised, I'll guide along individual student and go through their trades as well. This is to ensure that they are on the right track.

I've went through the trades one by one from the statement, some of the trades are base on the setups, but some are not. For those trades that follow the setups, most of her 10~20pips target price got hit very fast. But for those trades that does not follow the setups, most have swing against the direction of trades for quite a while before moving along with the trade and touches the pre-set profit taking level. This type of trade is actually very high risk as it need a bigger capital to withstand the swing. I've discouraged her for making similar trades as it is very risky and if the rate continue to go against her direction of trade, she will have making a significant loss instead of winning 10pips.

I always encourage my students to strictly follow the setups for both entry and for exit, as that will help them to minimise their risk, maximise their profit and have higher probability of winning.

The first official class in 2009 has successfully completed last night. The completion of this course also marked the beginning of the real trading environment to the students, I'll continue to follow up with them to ensure that they are progressing well in their tradings. Now they're trading in demo account, which I've strongly encouraged them to so before going into live using real money. I'll be monitoring their progress and guide them along the way.

During the last session of the course, I've shown them the trades live and explained to them exactly what we have to look out for, how to execute the trade, how to even further increase the probability of winning together with the high powered setups and how to see the possible scenerio that will happen ahead base on technical analysis. They have all provided me very encouraging feedbacks and I'll be posting the results of the evaluation form they have filled in (I'm writing what they've exactly written in the form).

Really appreciate them for attending the course and looking forward to share with more people who are interested in Forex as well as stock trading. SGI FX Trading Course update

The first official SGI FX trading course has been launched on 3rd Feb 09. The course is conducted in a small group and the response is good, almost all seats are taken up.

Today is the fourth session of this five sessions course. The feedback from my students was very encouraging and great to see that they are progressing well. Among all the students, there are seasoned full time trader, full time trader and full time trader to be. Most of them have attended other courses from elsewhere and they are very happy with what they've learnt from this course so far and they are glad that they've attended this course. I'm really very happy to hear this from them and will want to share more. I'll asked them to write some testimonial after the completing the course and I'll post them in my website.

Today I've taught them on the ultimate high powered trading setups, this is the kind of setup that enable to make good profit within a trade. There was a setup few days back and I managed to catch the trade and make a good profit of 200pips.

Above are EURJPY 15mins charts of showing some entry and exit price level generated from signal of the SGI FX high power setups. Top chart shows signal for long trades and bottom chart shows signal for short selling trades. In my setups, there will be clear entry and exit signal, be it for long or short.

The setups can also be applied in other timeframe such as daily, hourly, 5mins and even 1min. The selection of timeframe depend mainly on individual's intensity of trades, profit target and risk appetite, etc. Usually, a few of these high power setups can be seen per day in both 5mins and 15mins chart.

Note : In the course, other than lesson of the high power setups, there will be topic on selection of timeframe as well.

What is Forex and why Forex Trading?

"Forex" is referred to Foreign Exchange, it is the largest financial market in the world. Its transaction volume is over $4 trillion a day which is actually more than three times of the total amount of the stocks and futures markets combined. It is a really huge market.

Forex trading involved buying of one currency and selling of another at the same time. Currencies are traded in pairs eg. EUR/USD, USD/JPY or EUR/JPY.

Most traded currencies are USD, EUR, JPY, GBP, CHF, CAD, AUD and NZD.

Forex market is open 24hours a day and is closed during weekend. For Singapore time, it is open on Monday morning and close on Saturday morning. So anyone can trade at anytime within the weekdays.

For Forex, the increment of currencies is called "Pip". If the currency, for eg. USD/JPY, moves from 98.92 to 98.93, the increment is one pip. In forex, the profit or loss is measured by "pip".

There is no commissions for trading in Forex, there is no clearing fees, no brokerage fees. Brokers earn through the spread, it is the difference between the bid and ask price. Usually major pairs like EUR/USD has the spread of 2 pips, it various between brokers.

Forex is traded in lots, the standard size for a lot is $100,000 and for mini size, a lot is $10,000.
For a $100,000 lot size, the value of pip is calculated as follow:

USD/JPY at an exchange rate of 93.92
(0.01/93.92) x $100,000 = $10.64 per pip

EUR/USD at an exchange rate of 1.2575
(0.0001/1.2575) x EUR100,000 = EUR7.95, where EUR7.95 x 1.2575 = $10 per pip

$100,000 is not a small amount, how can most retailers afford to trade in Forex?
Don't worry, for Forex Trading, the brokers usually provide a leverage of 50:1, 100:1 or 200:1. Meaning with a leverage of 100:1, retailers are able to buy a standard lot of $100,000 with $1,000. Not forgetting the mini lot, for some brokers, it only required a minimum deposit of $250 to open a mini account.

In Forex trading, there is another good thing is that all brokers provide basic order types such as:
Market Order, Limit Order, Stop loss order, Good Till Cancelled (GTC), Good For the Day (GFD) and Order Cancels Other (OCO).

Meaning with these orders, we are able to set our profit taking or stop loss level when entering a trade, or even before entering a trade, we are able to set our entry, profit taking and stop loss level.

Sounds good right?

This is the beauty of Forex Trading.

I've managed to improve the success rate of my auto-trading system further. I tried to backtest the system as many months as possible, but the platform that I'm using only allow me to backtest from Mar 08.

Auto-Trading System

I'm currently working on the automated trading system, my goal is to implement my own trading system to the automated system. I've been studying hard on the programming and working on it step by step, though it may takes up quite a fair bit of my trading time and may takes a while, but in long run, I think it is worthwhile.

My current system (which will be taught in the course) is a bit complex but it has high success rate and consistent, thus it is not that staight forward for me to write the program within such a short time (plus my limited programming knowledge), but I'm still trying hard.

I've started off with a much simpler system (just to get a hang of it) the overall return is still good but just that the success rate is very low. I'm still trying to to eliminate the whipsaw in this simple system.

Trading Forex using Technical Analysis

With a capital of USD5k and making profit of USD7.377k within 5 days of trading, it may be unbelievable but it is achievable.

I've been trading using technical analysis and the results have been pretty good and consistent.

I'm currently conducting courses on how to trade forex using technical analysis from basic to advance level. I'll be sharing the methods that I'm using for my trading as well.

Currently, I'm trading in USD/JPY and EUR/JPY pairs which suit my timing (Asia).

Using some high probability setups for most of my trades, the results have been consistently good. The method that I'm using is not that straight forward though, as in order to further increase the probability of winning the trades, I need to take into consideration of some factors such as timeframes, trends, time of trades, risk and return etc. But the effort put in is definitely worthwhile.

Comparing using a simple method with lower probability of winning to a more complex method with much higher probability of winning, I would rather choose the more complex one as the main objective of trading is not about simplicity but is about increase the probablity of winning as many trades as we can. To me, a complicated method can become simple if we keep practicing it.

Practice makes perfect!
